Day 18 · Genesis 42–43 · Matthew 18 · Psalm 13

  • In Genesis 43:11 and also 14; Israel is in a trial of having to give up his son Benjamin to get some food. And he was afraid, but he said, “If it must be so…” that his sons be taken away from him. And yet again in v.14: “If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.” He looked at what he had and was ready to lose his children for the sake of God’s promise because it was the only way to survive.
  • In Matthew 18:3; Jesus tells the disciples that they must be like children to enter into the Kingdom of God.

I have 2 little siblings. And one thing I noticed about them, is that they can’t do much things on their own. You need to provide and make food for them, and even financially provide for them—as my parents do.

  • In Psalm 13; David cries out to God because he is being attacked by the enemy. And he cries out to God to hear him, and to just consider him and his life. To just briefly think about him and his faith growing trial at the time. But David at the end of the psalm trusts in God and how He has delivered him before, and blessed him where he’s at right now.

Take Away: The Devil had been attacking me for a long time, and also the past 2 days with Wet Dreams. And I’ve been crying out to God to free me from this, but sometimes he doesn’t, or it doesn’t seem like he’s even listening to me. And so I truly relate to David and how he was attacked in his sleep to where he called it, “The sleep of death.”
No matter how I pray against it, even trying to do the tabernacle prayer, but I don’t always get good sleep that night.
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and have a wet dream, and I also feel an evil presence in my house, so I get up and go pray against it until I feel peace in the house, which sometimes takes up to an hour. Even now as I write this on my phone, I fear of these attacks, for I will sleep soon. These are also not in my heart. I will be honest; sometimes I doubt that I will ever get free from this for I feel that everything that I ever did my whole life never worked out.

God is telling me that I need to trust in my deliverance that is already here, and that I need to depend on him to free me from this thorn in my side.

Day 16 · Genesis 37–39 · Matthew 16 · Psalm 11

In Gen 39 Joseph over and over chooses to do what is right by refusing Potiphar’s wife because he doesn’t want to “sin against God” (vs 9), yet she falsely accuses him and Joseph ends up in prison and seemingly loses everything he worked so hard for.
Its interesting that the story never focuses on Joseph defending himself or explaining. Instead, the repeated emphasis is that “The Lord was with Joseph” (v. 2, 21, 23)

There’s a fine line between defending ourselves and allowing God to be our defender.
There are times to speak the truth and confront false accusations, but we don’t have to become consumed with proving ourselves to everyone.
Joseph’s reputation was temporarily destroyed, but his character wasn’t.

If we take care of our character, God will take care of our reputation and future

In Gen 38 it’s so wild to me when you realize that Jesus’ royal bloodline runs directly through Perez, the son of Judah and Tamar.

Tamar was a Canaanite woman who married Judah’s son Er, but God judged Er for his wickedness and he died.
She was then given to his brother Onan, who also acted wickedly and was judged by God and died.
Judah deceptively refused to give Tamar his third son Shelah as he had promised, because of fear of him dying too, so Tamar eventually disguised herself as a prostitute, and Judah slept with her thinking she was a cult prostitute? What!? Why does God use this particular act of sin for Jesus to eventually be born from these two? Tamar becames pregnant by Judah with twins, Perez and Zerah, what are the chances the timing lines up perfectly for her to get pregnant?
And somehow, out of this incredibly messy and broken story, God chooses Perez to carry the royal line that eventually leads to David and Jesus.
Wow 😳 what an unexpected family tree for Jesus to come through.
A Canaanite woman, sexual immortality, lies, moral failure, injustice, brokenness… and yet God works through it all.

Matthew even intentionally names Tamar in Jesus’ genealogy rather than hiding the messy story.
Judah → Perez → … → Boaz → Obed → Jesse → David → … → Jesus.
God’s doesn’t need a perfect family history to work with people.
He can take the most broken and unlikely circumstances and redeem them into His purposes.

Interesting that Perez literally means something like “breach/breakthrough” because of how he was born.
What a fitting name for a very unexpected son through whom the royal line of David & Jesus would eventually come.

Day 17 · Genesis 40–41 · Matthew 17 · Psalm 12

In Genesis 41; Joseph becomes the second in charge of all of Egypt, from the day before who he was a prisoner for a couple years.

  • In Matthew 17:22-23; Jesus talks to his disciples that he will get delivered to the hands of men, and killed. But then arise on the 3rd day.
  • In Psalm 12:5; David sings about how God hears the cry of the groaning, and he comes and places them in the safety that they Long for.

Take Away: My whole life I felt that there was supposed to be something there for me, or something good in my life. But all I remember is the trauma, and I was never told how to do things but was expected to do them. I had a good childhood, but the spiritual warfare that I had at a young age I believe because of the sensitivity to the spiritual realm that I had as a kid was scary and not understandable at that time. The lack of Love and intimacy from my Dad when I was growing up, and the conservativeness of my church I used to go, and the desire to be Loved. The desire to feel Loved, I never felt safe. And I felt oppression and demonic activity and Lies put in my mind by Demons telling me what to do, and I felt witchcraft done on my mind that I wouldn’t be able to think properly, and the witchcraft that was put on my family I felt as a kid because of my vulnerability and sensitivity to the spiritual realm. My vulnerability and openness was also hurt by the conservativeness of my church. I also just never felt safe, but I never knew what I felt because nobody taught me or showed me. My life experiences taught me to keep all of my emotions to myself and not express them. And also my feelings were hurt by friend groups, because they never made me feel heard, or appreciated, or noticed.

And The Lord is showing me that he wants me to cry to him and yearn for him, and he will make me feel safe. He will teach me and protect me before my enemies. He will be my shield and protecter. He is my Dad.

In Matthew 16:5-12 Jesus warns against the leaven of the Pharisees and sadducees. The disciples having forgotten the bring bread misunderstood him because of their circumstance, not because of what he actually said. Jesus reminds His disciples that if He can multiply the fishes and loaves how much more could He provide food with very little let alone nothing. Yes He was focused on warning them to not be hungry and seek after teaching from the religious leaders, but in that He also rebuked them for having such little faith that He wouldn’t provide food even if they forgot.

Day 12 · Genesis 29–30 · Matthew 12 · Psalm 9

Gen 29:9 And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she kept them.

A first mention of a woman as pastor? 😉😉

The Hebrew word is Ra’ah for a pastor/shepherd… Rachel means ewe or female sheep and she was a Ro’ah female shepherd.

So the lamb was a shepherd.

A lil’ prophetic nod to our Lord,
The Lamb is our Shepherd. 🐑

Day 16 · Genesis 37–39 · Matthew 16 · Psalm 11

  • In Genesis 39; Joseph was a servant of Potiphar, and the Lord blessed him to prosper in everything he oversaw. Joseph was tempted by Potiphar’s wife, and she wanted to sleep with him. But Joseph rejected her and kept denying. But then she planned a scheme to tempt him more, and he fled and left his robe. And she lied and he was taken to prison.

Matthew 16:25-26; Jesus says that whoever saves his life, will lose his life. But whoever loses his life for Christ’s sake will find it. And basically he says that nothing in this world is worthy of being as valuable seeing God’s glory in its unveiled form.

In Psalm 11:7; David says that God is righteous, and he loves those who follow righteousness. He says that the upright and those seeking God will behold his face.

Take away: God wants me to deny myself and my sinful desires of playing video games that I idolize. But to be in his presence, and he will clear my mind and give me the peace that is beyond understanding.

In Numbers 6.24-26 the LORD gave these words to the Aaronic priests to bless God’s people and to put His name upon them. In Jesus Christ we are all His priests, a “royal priesthood” as Peter says. So as a holy priest to God, speak this blessing over your loved ones, over yourself, over your brothers and sisters.

In Numbers 2, the LORD gave Moses very specific instructions on how the 12 tribes of Israel were to pitch their camps around the Tabernacle in the wilderness. Why so specific? Check it out.

Day 15 · Genesis 35–36 · Matthew 15 · Proverbs 2:10–22

Ruvim Balan
Ruvim Balan · Sep 18, 2026
  • In Genesis 35:5; The sons of Jacob were passing through a couple of nations, and the Fear of God fell upon them and they did not pursue or attack the sons of Jacob because God did not allow it.
  • Proverbs 2:10-12; Solomon says to his son that wisdom will enter into his heart, and understanding will deliver him from evil deceiving people and unrighteous persons, who walk in darkness and who rejoice in evil, and who’s ways are devious.
  • IN Matthew 15:17-20; Jesus talks about how it is not what enters the mouth that defiles the body, but what comes out of the mouth that defiles it. For the word come from the heart, and out of the heart comes those evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.

Take Away: Wisdom from God will deliver me from evil, and understanding will keep me from corruption. It will protect me from the evil of this world and prevent me from making foolish and hastily made decisions that will lead to destruction and chaos.
