πέτρα - PETRA - “bedrock, massive rock”
“You are PETROS, and upon this PETRA I will build my church.”
Our Lord is making a play on words with “stone” and “bedrock”. He is not building His church on the pebble Peter, but on the immovable bedrock, Himself.
no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1 Cor. 3:11)
Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone (Eph. 2:20)
