ἐξουσία - "authority"

from ἐκ “out of” + οὐσία feminine participle of εἰμι (I am) “being, existence.”

Hence ἐξουσία “authority” is that right and power which derives out of the nature of the being of the subject. Our English word carries that sense by its root “author.” The writer of the story has inherent sovereign right over his characters.

Examples: Matthew 7.29
